Why I Love to Pickle

The learning curve for Pickleball is not that steep, those that have experience in other racket sports such as tennis, ping pong, racquetball or squash can pick up the game rather quickly. What I love most about pickleball is that it is a sport that can be enjoyed by all ages and abilities.

Scoring is not hard to understand and most games are simply played to 11 points, win by 2.  The only wrinkle is that you can only win points on your own serve or your partner’s serve. Once you make a fault the ball goes to the other team.

With a much smaller court to navigate than tennis, Pickleball is easier on the feet. However, this can be a double-edged sword as the smaller playing area makes for a much faster game.

Finding a place to play is easy as well. No court=no problem.  On just about any level surface, you can easily set up a portable net, score some sidewalk chalk from the kids and let the game begin.

Things I love about pickleball:

  • Laughter is a given
  • You can compete and challenge yourself
  • It’s one of the least expensive sports to play
  • Folks are always willing to help you out
  • Get exercise without knowing it
  • Great stress reliever

Pickleball is a sport, with many healthy side effects including better fitness and agility. It’s one of the only sports where you can have a 15-year-old girl, a 60-year-old grandma, a retired teacher, and an 8-year-old granddaughter all playing a Pickleball game on the same court together.
